In many inflammatory conditions and injuries the results are immediate! This is such good news for those chronic or acute areas of pain and dysfunction that never seem to go away. Like a plant that has been deprived of sunlight, when the infrared laser light reaches injured cell tissue, the chromophores (molecules that can accept photons, causing biochemical change within atoms, molecules, cells or tissue) allow the cells to open and receive this infrared light energy. This is a healing light which activates the ATP (the universal energy currency of all known living organisms). If we were plants, photosynthesis would occur. Since we're mammals, it's called photobiomodulation.

The K-Laser is a Class IV therapeutic laser light that interacts with cells to improve cell membrane permeability thus leading to a cascade of beneficial effects increasing cellular energy and health. Its healing effects far exceed those of modalities like ultrasound and elecrical stimulation by leaps and bounds. It was cleared for use in the US by the FDA in 2003 and is relatively new to most doctors. It differs greatly from the Class IIIb lasers that some of you have experienced.
During each painless treatment, laser energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen, and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness, and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored and pain is relieved. The infrared light can reach into deep areas such as sinuses, knees, shoulder joints, lungs, intervertebral discs, nerve roots and joint capsules to activate cellular regenesis (photobiomodulation). It is also effective for dermatological conditions like shingles, warts, all degree burns, cold sores and other herpetic lesions, psoriasis, enigmatic rashes, wounds and fractures.
After a thorough chiropractic treatment during which every joint is assessed and adjusted (if needed), some myofascial release work is usually done, as well as cranial work. Sometimes the laser is used during a sessions to reduce the connective tissue adhesions and inflammation around scar tissue. All-in-all, the whole session is a breakthrough healing experience, and always leaves your body feeling much stronger, healthier and, at the very least, headed in a healing direction!
